SOUTHREPPS CHORALE SUMMER CONCERT 2024 ‘INTO THE STARS’

Saturday 20th July 2024

Southrepps Chorale brings a cosmic shimmer of sound to a summer’s night in North Walsham. In one of his final concerts with the choir he founded in 2011, Stephen Richards promises us an evening in which we are transported into eternity.

The beautiful and tuneful ‘Requiem’ (1986) by John Rutter, performed with professional ensemble, ends tantalizingly with the theme of eternal light. This work is followed by some gorgeous songs from the younger English composer, Will Todd. His ‘Songs of Peace’ (2014) a musical tribute to Iris, his recently departed mother, allow the choir and jazz trio of piano, bass and drums, to contemplate ‘Precious Moments’ and ‘Endless Songs’ before reaching out beyond our earth, and ‘Into the Stars’. Also included in the concert is the sublime ‘Cantique de Jean Racine’ (1865) by Gabriel Fauré.

An enchanting evening where classical and contemporary musical styles take us out of one world and into another.

Stephen Richards directs the 55 voice Southrepps Chorale with professional ensemble and soloists Lauren Dove, and William Lambert (treble) of Norwich Cathedral Choir.
